2 Secrets For Understanding The Big Obstacles On Becoming Green
Thinking about the progress that we as society achieve on the issue of becoming green and thinking green it is easy to overlook the major obstacles that the process faces.
Anthony North describes in a post he wrote about the obstacles in our society on thinking green two major social obstacles: big biz and religion.
It is easier to understand the role of the big biz in polluting the land than the role of religion. Big Biz want to make as much money as possible in as little time as possible and they want control and predictability.
If you create a world of your own and try to determine everything inside it from prices to behavior to demands then you feel that the nature is just another variable for you to manipulate, you become arrogant.
This applies not only to big biz but to a large part from the human condition. We want control, predictability, data to work on, in short most of us treat nature as just another element to be handled.
We deny the two way communication that is possible in another thought system the big biz are doing what all of us do only more.
Religion on the other hand teaches us to think of this world and all that it offers as less important then the “real” one. The eternal world up in the skies. If we are thought that our material nature is something to overcome and not something to relate too and love the consequences are not surprising.
Most of the people think of nature as something to be controlled, mastered, solved, etc. They certainly don’t think of it as a force or as an entity to have a relationship with.
Unless this thought shift occurs green thinking can only go so far.
