Masdar City, Abu Dhabi new post petroleum city has a lot of freedoms that other city’s in planing don’t necessarily have. The first and foremost is that money is not an object, therefor many different options that would usually be closed are open, and even better the political leadership is open and ready to try ideas that are innovative and even borderline fantasy.
Tree hugger did an interview with one of the PRT, personal rapid transit designers, a system complimentary to the light train, that will provide clean and quiet transportation for the city residents an commuters.
If you haven’t gotten it yet, Masdar will be a completely car free area and good substitutes need to be found.
Read the entire article here. I found it very interesting.

Its nice to find a City that is more action than talk or at least walk the walk. Olson has set itself a goal of being carbon neutral by 2050, and as a means to this end started investigation alternatives to fossil fuel for the public transport network.

Biomethane, which is what will fuel the public transport system is Oslo, is a by product of treated sewage. So where as previously the at one of the sewage plants in Oslo’s the gas was flared of creating a devastating amount of CO2. All of this is to change in September of 2009 when the Biomethane will be used to full 200 of the city’s public gasses on slightly altered engines.

As the old saying goes - One mans @#$% is another mans treasure.

Green and sexy can combine it seems. Personally I have always had a weak spot for sexy cars, though with the green streak was sure that was one dream that would not happen.

Now, Buck allowing, that may not be the case.

Appealing to Hippies and Hot-rods alike - this has to be a breakthrough Cool

Interesting interview with BBC reporter George Monbiot and Jeroen van der Veer, the CEO of Royal Dutch Shell.

I have a conflicting opinion about the interview (interesting and worth the watch) - leaving no doubt that shell is not a pro environmental organization, - as the CEO said - They are into fossil fuels and although they dabble in alternative energy - this is what they do.

To be fair - I can understand the point he is making about the gas buring in Nigeria - it is hard to get a job done if the workers can’t work safely.

I would not want to be in shells shoes right now.
