The County Council of Maui recently made the Hawaiian county the 17th city or county in the United States to ban displays of captive cetaceans.

Very good. We need it on a statewide or national basis however.

For the whale watching industry, of wich grimly bubble or Graeme Buttler is a part of (harassing whales into slow death, as has been documented) ban on display of captive cetaceans removes competition. No wonder he likes the news. When they ban whale watching from boats he is bound to be not so happy.

Gunnar

Your posts are getting more ridiculous by the month. I actively campaign for restrictions of speed and numbers and for the type of vessel used. However the big issue is that there is no evidence acceptable to the local department of conservation any how, that speed or the numbers of whale watching vessels affect the populations here in New Zealand.

My claim that vessels driven fast around pods of dolphins or whales disturbs them is not backed up by any science that is acceptable to my Government.

If you have any evidence that will stand up, I would love the link.

So stop whining and do something useful for a change. Direct me to the

Science? Whaleing of some controlled sort is ok. There you have it. Science. Hopefully you won't reply with some nonesence about how you or your non-credible whale hugging corhorts don't accept the IWO and such.

BTW- what is the safe speed of a vessel around a whale? Has anyone determined this? Wouldn't jet drive be much better?

What would be good is if the designers of super-silent nuclear subs could branch off into the civilian business and design engines and propellers for civilian crafts that weren't so noisy.

You're new around here [1], aren't you?

No, I make no money from cetaceans in an way, shape or form, directly or indirectly, neither via my employment nor as an employee of or beneficiary from any advocacy group on either side of any question that has any bearing on anything to do with cetaceans[2].

Sheesh.

[2] that sufficiently all-encompassing for you?
