How come such a simple thing as the relation between deforestation to the climate changes hasn’t resulted in changes in the deforestation patterns?

In the next 24 hours, deforestation will release as much CO2 into the atmosphere as 8 million people flying from London to New York. Stopping the loggers is the fastest and cheapest solution to climate change.

I have seen recently a short movie about the influence of the deforestation on the entire process of climate changes - the melting of the icebergs and the sea levels rising.

It has such an immediate influence on global warming and eventually danger to the seashores that it makes really no sense that all the efforts in event such as the one held on 7.7.07 focus on saving electricity instead of focusing on the main issue.

Of course being a wise consumer of fuel is important but if countries like Brazil continue to destroy the rain forests thinking about the short term benefits to their economy nothing would change.
