Excellent article.

However, I fear that it is going to take something like the loss of a city or three (e.g., what would have happened if Ivan had hit straight on to New Orleans) before we wake up a bit.

The problem is, like all state changes, the zone between states is chaotic and unpredictable. This manifests itself in the rising intensity of the hurricane season. However, more drastic jumps in weather patterns can be expected.

Consider also the possibilities of a drastic shift in the arctic. For example, one scenerio that has been proposed is the Antarctic ice sheet sliding off of Antartica, displacing enough water to raise the sea level by three feet.

We may survive. But with the attitudes these days - at least in America - it is going to take the proverbial brick to the head to wake people up.

If we have no spine, but only self-serving wimpedness maybe we could blame the 150 million atmospheric polluting 100 year old technology automobiles on 4 years of President Bush?

Or maybe we could stop making politics instead be what we pretend to be?
