Environmental Activist Groups in Indonesia

I have a friend in Jakarta Indonesia that is in need of finding an environmental activist/support group with international backing and funding. Can anyone point me to one? Thanks.

Thanks for that information. That will be very helpful. I guess I should have been more clear. She has an issue with a river in her neighborhood being poisoned by some factories and the local activist groups don't have the funding to help her, although they've tried. I'm not sure if the factories are local or foreign companies. Thanks again for the info.

By the way, if you or she wants to get a wider range of possible contacts, you might want to contact the National Wildlife Federation here in the US and buy a copy of their latest 'Conservation Directory,' or whatever they call it nowadays.

It's been years since I bought an NWF Conservation Directory, but the last time I did, it had listings for hundreds of different 'environmental' and 'conservation' groups, including some pretty dubious government agencies and industry front groups, addressing all kinds of different eco issues.

In 1994, my copy of the directory mostly had different activists groups listed by state; however, they also had a whole US national section listing the bigger, nationally active groups, and a rather smaller international section listing groups active overseas.

The groups listed were a VERY mixed bag, both politically and environmentally, but for me as a journalist, the directory was the first place I looked when I wanted informed contacts on different conservation controversies. It might be a good place for you and your friend to look for additional contacts and resources.
