ENVIRONMENTALISTS FIGHT ROLLBACK OF CLEAN WATER ACT

A proposed rollback of the federal Clean Water Act could leave 300 thousand acres of Maine wetlands without any federal protection. The Bush Administration began the process of rewriting the Clean Water Act earlier this year.

The revisions could result in the loss of federal protection for up to 20 million acres of wetlands nationwide. The E.P.A. estimates that 297 thousand acres in Maine, or five percent of the state's wetlands, could be at risk of losing federal protection. That's more than any other New England state by far.

The federal Clean Water Act is unconstitutional. It is simply a money tit for bureaucrats and lawyers. The people of Maine should be able to function without federal protection. If they are like NY, they already pay taxes to support a state environmental agency.

After sever hundred million dollars were spent to clean the environment at Love Canal all the pollutants are still there! The area is basically back to the way Hooker Chemical left it. The EPA has decreed Love Canal to be safe for repopulation. It has been 'cleaned up'. It is now known as Black Creek Village.
