Global warming could soon make Antarctica the only place to live, says chief British scientist

02.05.2004 By GEOFFREY LEAN

Antarctica is likely to be the world's only habitable continent by the end of this century if global warming remains unchecked, the British government's chief scientist, Professor Sir David King, said last week.

He said that the Earth was entering the 'first hot period' since 60 million years ago, when there was no ice on the planet and 'the rest of the globe could not sustain human life'.

The shock warning

For once, I have to agree with you. I think it is entirely and purely a fabrication of the journalist. If such a prominent science advisor had ACTUALLY said such a thing in public, it would have been reported widely, and I can find no evidence of him ever saying such nonsense.

Other than this report or articles based on it, I can't find any evidence of Sir David King having said this either. BUT, I also can't find a retraction by Geoffery Lean, so I suggest we wait and see what develops. I agree, the statments in this article are way way over the top.

That was another thread. Cooling in the stratosphere. But really only of interest to satellite operations that have to worry about atmospheric drag from the near vacuum that exist up that high.

I wouldn't worry about what Journalists write. Learn the science. It is worthy of serious attention.
