J20 - Anti-Inauguration Call-to-Action

Whether you're a progressive democrat, a green party activist, a secessionist, or an anarchist one thing should be clear: the Bush cadre is our greatest enemy. No hope for improving, changing, or eliminating the current system can exist as long as they hold power.

On January 20th people around the country and the planet will be organizing a day to fully manifest the ongoing and daily growing resistance to their global tyranny. Through street protests and autonomous, decentralized direct action around Portland, lets mark inauguration with a day that challenges the supremacy of the US Empire.

Let this day serve as a wake up to liberals, Democrats, and others opposing Bush: the time for escalating resistance is upon us. This day will not be a about a singular protest in the streets, but about creating a rallying cry for the long struggle ahead of us.

Join us at 4pm on January 20th at Portland's North Park blocks downtown (W. Burnside and Park St.)! Get involved in making this a massive day of resistance before the 20th as well.

How bad does it have to get? If not now, then when? On Thursday, January 20th let us bring these questions home to the vast majority of Portland, 200 million in the U.$.A. and the 6 billion globally that did not vote for Bush as world leader. Let's inspire the action mandated by the present reality, by the knowledge that we stand on the precipice of comprehensive planetary disaster.

Within our lives - within a few years! - we are likely to witness the triumph of corporate rule, the end of non-human ecosystems, unparalleled devastation wrought by global warming, a never-ending war on terrorism, the crushing of civil liberties, the criminalization of abortion, the completion of a global empire, the initiation of the international police state, and conclusion of the eradication of traditional cultures.

Today, on January 20th, and until we turn this train around let us inspire the loudest 'NO'. Through our continual community organizing, general disobedience, and direct action we have hopes of standing in the way. It's time to look past our fear of government repression, our comfort zones and collective disorganization, the hopelessness of the current moment, and the multitude of challenges we face.

Because it's not going to get better: it will only get worse.

On January 20th we have the opportunity to demonstrate the magnitude of the opposition, to promote alternative visions, to strengthen the confederacy of our communities in resistance, to grow our vigilance in the face of the trials ahead, and to illustrate the potentials for both non-participation and direct confrontation with the current system.

Above all, in both our organizing and actions, let us demonstrate that this is just the beginning.
