Hawaii

The tension between preservation and development can be prominent in places that rely on tourism more than in other places.

Even a simple thing as operating a fairy can have devastating effects on the whales and the wild life.

In an internal debate in Hawaii the issue of recycling was addressed

Responding to an audience question about solid waste,
Naeole said she would push for more recycling and said
“she had heard” that there was a form of
less-polluting incineration. Safarik said he also
favored aggressive recycling and was against
incineration.

Hunter bishop referred to part of the intentions to do something about the sustainability of Hawaii.Sure tourism can be important to the economy but if the nature is ruined tourist won’t come.

In oder to have a world that all of us can enjoy for the long term balance should be found between development and preservation, there is no conflict between the two if we just understand that unbalanced development ruins that attraction that it tries to promote. The economic and the environmental interest can merge if only we could plan for 20-30 years instead of just for right now.
