I have seen a report that Greenpeace makes $100 million a year from their propaganda campaigns.

Does anyone know where I can find more information about Greenpeace's finances? I would like to check this myself. I'm off to the search engines now, anyway.

Thanks

'Remember that fundraising is about need, not about money.'

Wow - did Greenpeace really feel the need to tell people this? Usually when we talk about fundraising this is obvious...

'The year ending 31 December 2000 saw an increase of 14% in income to Greenpeace 'Worldwide'.' ... 'On the expenditure side, Greenpeace's primary focus on campaigning activities is reflected in the 11% rise in campaign expenditure.'

So let's say Greenpeace was making 100,000,00 a year. They increase that by 14%, that goes to 114,000,000 They spend an extra 11% on what they did the previous year. To be fair, we will assume they start from 100,000,000 expenditure. This means they spend 111,000,000. Who gets the other $3,000,000?

'... The overall result for the year shows a significant surplus, of 2.8m euros. On an operating level, Greenpeace aims to break even - matching income to expenditure; however, on an annual basis this is not easy to achieve, as fundraising income as difficult to predict accurately in advance. It would be imprudent to budget for spending higher that budgeted income. Therefore, in a year where income exceeds budget - such as 2000 - we are likely to show a material surplus. In the medium term Greenpeace does not intend to increase its overall reserve levels and reserves are likely to decline in 2001, when some of the accumulated reserves are spent furthering Greenpeace's goals. '

The end of 2001 is not far away - I will certainly be keeping an eye on this one.

It's an interesting, but rather one-sided page by a tiny splinter group off of Greenpeace International. I'd be curious to hear the other side of the story. OTOH, it does explain Geenpeace's abominable stance on the dolphin/tuna issue, one which appalled most US environmentalists.

This looks like a pretty good group. They seem to have a robust anti-whaling position and campaign going as well as anti-Japanese dolphin slaughter, anti sea turtle slaughter, anti driftnetting, etc. See http://www.greenpeacefoundation.com/action/actions.cfm

Thanks debiddo. This is the first time you have posted anything I found informative and worthwhile. I appreciate it. There's hope for you yet

Rev Dirk Whales are incredible, intelligent animals whose numbers have been cruelly decimated by industrial whaling. Greenpeace Foundation is dedicated to an end to all whaling. It was a founder of the global anti-whaling movement, and has worked for 22 years in this cause, seeking out, uncovering, and exposing the reality, cruelty - and often illegality - of whaling. Much has been accomplished, but the whales aren't saved yet.

Greenpeace Foundation, as advertised by Debiddo!

I'm pleased with you for actually posting one worthwhile thing out of several thousand posts of garbage. I'm also please that you turned me on to this organization as they are one that I think I will support both monitarily and see if they need any volunteer help in the area where I live.

Rev Dirk 'A man is really ethical only when he obeys the constraint laid on him to aid all life which he is able to help, and when he goes out of his way to avoid injuring anything living. He does not ask how far this or that life deserves sympathy as valuable in itself, nor how far it is capable of feeling. To him life as such is sacred ' Albert Schweitzer
