I indulged in a rather long email debate with the webmaster. I'm surprised he doesn't show up here, because I think he would fit in well with other antiwhalers such as the Rev and Douglasred.

This isn't any stranger than John Lilly dropping acid and then 'downloading' from a whale's eye, nor is it stranger than Star Trek IV or Rich's notion of 'whale nations'. This kind of stuff is funny until you realize that people actually believe it. Then it's just sad, and even a little scary.

Not as scary as your take on things! That is, since lilly dropped acid etc...that means that anyone who is actually against commercial whaling does the same thing...now that IS scary that someone actually believes that! But then again, it is clunk and his clunking mind...so what else could we expect? Not to mention your seemingly innate fear of *hippies* and belief that they cause all problems...hehehe!

Yeah, I have gotten better at feeling sad about them. Before, I was just frustrated. I guess that is something you learn to do when you have debated for a while. It is just futile and exhausting to get all worked up over people that you think is acting most stupid. Well, I might just add that I did not post that site just to mock it. I wanted peoples opinions on it, which is just what I got.

You seem to have more class and maturity than that. That is what makes it nice to speak to you. I think the pages are serious ( I have seen a lot of 'joke' pages and these don't look too 'jokey'. Even though they agree with my philosophy, I really can't say they are real. I don't know if 'channeling' is real. I have heard both sides of the story and I just don't know. I tend to at least listen to channelers because even if what theey are saying is really thier own thoughts it seems to be heartfelt. Heartfelt belief is far more importantant to me than logical sarcasm. I will just say this: If it is real, you had better think about it. If it is not real, you had better realize just how strongly we in the west (and elsewhere) believe in the mythos of the whale and how hard your whaling hits us in the gut that we would somehow believe such fantasies as this. It should tell you something about how deep our determination goes.

No, it didn't seem like a joke. I think it was linked to a book about it too. And what you say about heartfelt is a good point. I will never believe that they are actually communicating with the whales, but I can believe that it is their deepest feelings that surface. However, I do not think it should be used in the whaling debate. And luckily, I can't remember seeing it used that way either.

We in the west..... And where do you think I live? Anyway, I do realize the extent of belief in the whale and it's magnificence. But you should also realize how culturally connected we feel to whaling. And another problem is that the more ignorance we feel coming from the anti-whaling side, the more we will want to whale. That is how I feel at least. It was a little hard to turn my feelings into words, but I think I managed to show what I wanted.

But where you're missing some of the point is that anti-whalers (for the most part) are NOT ignorant...neither about whales nor whaling. Now, you have read clund's many references to anti-whalers *all* being acid dropping, whale downloading, addle-brained hippies...wouldn't you call that ignorance? We know it is not a truth. I could easily say things like: well clund must have taken some real *bad* acid and he had a terrible time...it was scary...he downloaded his own ignorance into his conscious mind...and it totally freaked him out! But , you know I wouldn't say things like that!
