Long Term Planning And The World Of Politics

It is not new that politicians build a very interesting policies on various areas and little by little they compromise this or that part until they are changed beyond recognition.

The energy policy of both candidates get a lot of attention during this pre-election period and as interesting as their declared policies are I’m sure both of them are going to give in to the pressures of real life and the need to win votes so there would be nothing much left when one of them reaches the oval office.

It is one thing to plan the perfect plan to solve the energy needs of our country and the world and another thing all together to be able to use policies as a guideline for long term planning.

I can’t say that I’ve studied all the aspects of the environmental policies of both candidates but from what I’ve read so far it seems that Obama has a slight advantage on the green side of the energy’s policy. Check this Oilbama post and this one for example.

For me energy and the wise use of it is not just a problem of having as much electricity as we want for as long as we want in reasonable prices. It has to include the element of seeing the larger picture and looking beyond our needs and desire to help create a balanced world.

Minimizing emissions because it would be good for everyone, thinking about the best ways to have green fuel without world hunger, finding solutions that would be more considered to the way the world looks and many other questions.

It is possible that building nuclear facilities as McCain suggests would solve the problem of the availability of electricity but are there other ways that won’t harm our landscape so much? Are we thinking of the best possible ways to coexist with nature or are we even sure what does it means.

I have a feeling that the changes the candidates would agree to by November are only a small part of the changes they’ll agree to when they’ll have to cope with the pressures of real political pressures.

It is still a question of acting from an higher perspective that can create a long term energy changes that can be implemented and can be a guideline for many years to come.

I’m not attached to this or that specific policy and I believe that we’re going to see a lot of changes in the pretty clean policies of both candidates. I believe that the best guarantee against forgetting the goal altogether is the intention not just to solve a pressing problem but the desire to create a better world, when your goals are of an abstract nature any decision you’ll make would be the right one.
