This morning's local News (from Washington State) showed a segment interviewing the Makah's Elders. Their Elders stated that they are angry over the killing of the Gray Whale. They said that the hunt was NOT conducted according to tribal tradition but was done just for sport! Last night's News showed a woman tribal Elder crying on camera, she said, 'They have killed my friend!' Now, there can be no more arguing over the issue of whether this was done for cultural tradition and honor - because their own Elders publicly stated it was nothing more than a 'sport' - which is a slaughter under a veil of lies. The Makah Indians have taken one giant step backward in the evolution of all mankind and all for 'Sport'! Good going. Your credibility is now gone, your honor has been defiled by your own Elders. We now all know the truth!

You are really grasping at things to throw back with this tidbit. If you were really following the news about this elder you wouldn't have to spend your time trying to educate us with your news spots. That whale is now our strength and is not anthropomorphized just as a indian pet.

Please...I saw and read this too. Please all of you do not assume it was all the elders of the Makah.

We are all a part of the circle. It is just sad that some want to break it.

I support the Makah Nation.

No white person can ever understand unless they are within the peoples...

How many white people will say a prayer for the animal or plant they eat? How many think that food only comes from stores?

I would die for the right of the Makah Nation to take their whales!

If you read up on Native American culture you'll find out that Elders can only make suggestions. They were never like say the President of the U.S. It's like congressmen bickering. Nothing more.

Good point!

I remember this particular Elder stating her view before. I suspect it is a minority view. After all, the Makah are not monolithic. Does finding one American that does not like chocolate mean Americans don't like chocolate?
