Shepherd in the courtroom as it is on the high seas. <<<

Ah hah...

Now we are getting to the heart of the entire discussion!!!

It's about the money.

And that alone labels everything that followed as total bullshit.

If the whales are half as smart as some of the bozos in here seem to think, they wouldn't really need any help.

Oh yes, send your money to Sea Shephard, folks. Watson needs a new sauna.

Zodiacs??? Are we talking star charts here? If I'm wrong, please correct me, but if not, please excuse me while I go elsewhere and do some very loud belly-laughing.

This isn't directed at me, but what the hell..

I don't go to church. Silly superstition...

I don't hunt (the occasional fishing trip does take place, however)...

No such thing in my neighborhood.

I don't think there are girl scouts in Norway.

Because the people he (we) disagree with in this case are a bunch of condemning, brainwashed, oppressive moonies who've elevated some dumb animal to the status of near-godhood.

Ahem...

Well I suppose that the entire idea of a soul could be debated. If it is conceded that there is such a thing, then I prefer to think that I have one.

Indeed, Aristotle (like most other thinkers and philosophers in the ancient near east) postulated the idea that people have souls (and that animals don't). Therefore people have rights (and animals don't).

Well, I personally don't see any line of distinction between people and animals. People *are* animals, as far as I'm concerned. Animals and people have the same rights. Including the right to eat. Which again means killing other animals.

The soul... I just don't believe such a thing exists.

Well, I certainly won't want to be around you at your feeding time. <G>

The idea of a soul is complex, and rather nebulous, but Aristotle took a shot at trying to describe the inner escence of humanity, as did Kant and a number of other philosophers. They were attempting (I believe) to merely describe certain observable characteristics of human existance. I do hope that you'll review their opinions during the process of forming your own.

Good. And if I did not have to kill to eat, I wouldn't.

Where the &%$$ does that come from? Like I've said before, humans *are* animals. No better, no worse.

Maybe you've mixed my posts up with those of Richard and his lot.

If they're using modern weapons, it's because they're more efficient. And probably cause less pain to the whale as well.

We are humans. Makah are humans. Humans are social animals, and must therefore follow certain laws. Among other things, we can't go around killing each other for fun.

Mind you, the Makah are not killing whales for fun (afaik), but for food.

Sheer coincidense.

Sure, but we all have to eat. And that means killing things.
