That the animal rightists support racists is nothing new and hardly surprising. Animal rights have got nothing to do with environmentalism, so the racists' environmental record is most likely of no concern to animal rightists.

I have previously suggested the book 'New Ecological Order', by Luc Ferry for an insight into the ideological similarities between animal rights and the extreme right. I'll do it again.

You shouldn't mix animal rightists and environmentalists. They have entirely separate ideologies, and indeed the two ideologies do partially contradict each other.

One problem is that few people are aware of this. The reason is that as long as an animal population is endangered, both animal rightists and environmentalists have the same goal: diminish the hunt. This has been the case for some whale species for some time. Since the vast majority of people have limited taste for animal rights, but most people see the idiocy of hunting an endangered population, the animal rights movement have jumped on the endangered argument, but for the animal rightist this argument is nothing but a straw-man. He clings to the argument because it works on most people, but his real reasons are ethical.

The situation has changed. Many whale species have recovered, or it has been demonstrated that they were not severely decimated by previous hunt. The environmentalist will have no objection to continuing the hunt provided it's done sensibly. The animal rightist will still have objections, but can't use his straw-man argument anymore, thus some resort to racism, some resort to anonymous violent actions and some do it the hard and right way: Argue honestly with their real arguments.

The bottom line is that one should be careful to blame environmentalists for the activities of the animal rightists.

Yeah, and I saw a lovely picture of a Makah hunt supporter with a sign that said 'Kill The Whales' and a sketch of a whale with harpoons sticking out of it like a pincushion. So, I wouldn't want to be like you either. And unlike your blatent lie, the Makah days protestors will be dressed in quite normal clothing, reflecting the fact that they are mainstream Americans.

So are you saying the white-bedsheet outfit ISN'T 'normal clothing' for 'mainstream Americans'? Do you get the feeling you might be bringing your anti-Makah bullshit to the wrong newsgroup? Just wondering.
