Surely his view isn't that climate change isn't happening, nor that it doesn't present a risk to human societies, especially coastal settlements, and of course biodiversity, only that windfarms probably aren't the answer and that other risks to wildlife and human welfare are still more significant right now and shouldn't be neglected.

Or are you honestly saying that personally, right now, you're giving more money to anti oil industry campaigns than to those helping the people of Sudan?

It does strike me as odd that so many people who cannot possibly expect to live to an age where they could ever know whether climate change represents the biggest threat to society, and cannot possibly have a solid grasp of the science, are so keen to support severe measures to prevent it happening. Particularly since I can only imagine that these people are themselves spectacularly wealthy being able to afford regular holidays overseas, cars, large houses, etc. yet aren't only keen to give up these luxuries but are also prepared to spend their remaining wealth campaigning for even more radical solutions such as changes to how we generate power, etc.

For these reason I do have some sympathy with those who see belief in global warming as a cult. Presumably when most folks believed the earth was flat the 'round earthers' must have seemed a very strange bunch indeed - and what difference did it make anyway? Life goes on.
