From Geoff Carlin: Thanks to everybody for their posts ...... it does seem to boil down to one thing, Norway's contribution to human civilisation, is the paperclip. Scotland's contribution has always been her people, despite the various notable inventions and the game of golf. In the mystical sense Norwegians (and the Japanese) murder the dream 'self' of the human spirit as they murder whales. There is no justification of this statement, as there can be no justification of the act of killing a whale. National guilt is a desperately blunt concept which does apply to the relevant peoples involved in this critical time, without exception, as the whales approach the failsafe point in the slide to extinction... It is almost too late, but not too late. The whales are the catalyst in the great chain reaction of Ocean abundance, their life is to flourish life. They must be spared. Extinct whales = dead oceans = starving humanity Focus minds, lobby your representatives. Despite the ongoing war of the Towers and the Pillars, and all the distracting horror that proceeds from this, which will indeed dominate the news and media for at least the next 7 years or so, the crucial battle for the future of humanity's well-being and existence takes place this year in a grimy Japanese city, where the stench from the charnel houses serving whaleflesh pervades the very firmament. There must be a total ban on all forms of whaling, in association with means of fishing which preserve stocks, all necessary moratoria being enforced, in conjunction with well thought out measures to limit and cure pollution of the seas. What more can I say?

That's one paperclip more than you Geoff

Do you count?

There is no justification for you Scotts killing all the things you kill either then.

Whale stocks which are the target of human hunting appear to be continuing to increase.

What a heartless bastard you are.

Which is more than the contributions of all the whale-worshipers in the world put together.

Do you 'murder' carrots when you eat them?

Sure there is. Dolt.

The whales being hunted are *increasing* in numbers - and that makes you a liar.

It *was* almost too late, but things have changed.

Yeah, and they also talk to aliens like in Star Trek IV.

Dead oceans = starving humaity is correct. Extinct whales = dead oceans is bollocks. But since there's no sign of the whales going extinct in the near future, the whole equation is moot.

What?

Stop sniffing paint supplies.

As little as possible.

Nice that you acknowledge it. The paperclip is a very useful invention. Just think about all the documents which would have been floating around if it wasn't for it.....

As far as I have understood, you are from Scotland. Am I correct? If so, I hardly think there is much more to say about your statement.....

Not in your eyes at least. Luckily, others see it in a slightly different way.

Which is an outright lie, and you are very aware of that Geoff.

Sounds bad. Lucky for us that the whales aren't extinct then.....

Pure poetry, really nice Carlin.

You could say that we should donate a few bucks to Greenpeace.....

and a very fine one it is too..

Scotland also has it´s fair share of nutters too

food Geoffy .. *food*

failsafe point in the what?... I think you´ve been partaking a little too much of your own medical supplies .. moderation geoffy .. that´s the ticket, one pill instead of two next time and the flying whales will dissapear..

which planet are you on today?

By towers I think he means the WTC... the pillars?

Nothing that will make anybody ever consider taking you seriously if you keep spouting this stoned waffle boyo..

Really? which population ? the Vancouver bunch? you´re right there.. that population is declining rapidly.. could it be because of the 100,000 Save the whale tourists that chase them every year?

Please check your facts as I don´t believe that killer whales are hunted in that area..( except by the tourist boats that is)

The Norwegan killer whale population however is doing just great..457 individuals identified as of 2000 with an estimate of approx. 1500 in total in Norwegian territorial waters. The icelandic population is also recovering very well since US Navy stopped using them for target bombing/strafing practice in the 60´s.

Or did you mean killer whales in general? Or what did you mean at all? please elaborate ......

There has been no definitive answer to this point as to the reason(s) for our local orca population decline. It's not from being hunted and shot though...whether with guns or cameras.

Iceland has a very profitable whale watching *industry*, although I don't know for a fact if they use Orcas.

Well, at present, check Greenland. If you don't call that hunting, then what is?

As for Vancouver and surroundings: Whale *tourism* doesn't really apply to the Orcas around here. It's the migrating grey whales that brings tourists to *watch* and shoot (with cameras); although many times while riding the ferry between Vancouver (through the Gulf Islands) to Victoria, I have seen and made pictures of local pods as well as transient ones.

Pigs. Cows. Dogs. Cats. And Doug.

Just like orcas, none of them are whale stocks which are the target of human hunting. Hence one has to ask, whats yer point Doug?

Are you out of touch, Floyd? Check what's been happening up around Greenland. I call that hunting...by humans...orcas being *hunted* and killed by humans. That's my point. If you don't call it hunting, let's call it killing orcas and leave it at that.

They aren't whales and they aren't endangered.
