The world's daily consumption of oil is over 76 Million barrels. At 159 litres to a barrel, this works out at over 12000 million litres per DAY.
In the film 'Wag the Dog' Robert DeNiro, acting as a presidential advisor, asks:
'Why do people go to war?'
The answer:
'To preserve their way of life.'
Do we really need to go to war to preserve this way of life?
President Bush and those in favour of the war for oil policy obviously think so. So you may ask: well, what can I do?
Use your car less!
This (and other) wars for oil happen to put petrol in your car so that you can drive because you're too lazy to walk or use a bike. A high percentage of car journeys are for ridiculously short distances yet use a disproportional amount of petrol.
The less petrol you use the less need for oil wars. So next time you blame George Bush and Tony Blair for war mongering turn to the nearest mirror and you'll see a hypocrite staring back at you. Don't bother with pointless boycotts of US or UK oil companies - you'll just get your fix of blood stained oil elsewhere - rather walk, use a bike, take public transport or, if you absolutely have to, share a car.
If we all play our part, there may be no need to protest against any future war for oil.
